Privacy Policy

Effective date: May 15, 2026

This Privacy Policy describes how Joakim Evju ("we", "us", or "our") collects, uses, and protects information when you use the Hangout mobile application ("the App"). By using the App you agree to the practices described here.

1. Information We Collect

Account information

When you create an account we collect your email address, full name, username, and display name. You may also optionally add a profile photo and a short bio. If you sign in with Google or Apple, we receive only the name and email address that those services share with us.

Location

With your permission, the App accesses your device's location while the App is in use to show you nearby events and to let you pin a location when creating an event. We do not track your location in the background.

Events you create

When you create an event, we store the event title, description, address, date and time, cover photos, category tags, capacity, and visibility setting (public or friends-only).

Social interactions

We store information about friend connections and friend requests (accepted, pending, or declined), event RSVPs and attendance, and event invitations.

Messages

Direct messages you exchange with friends — including message text, emoji reactions, and read status — are stored on our servers. Only you and the recipient can read your messages.

Safety data

When you block another user, we store that block relationship so we can prevent unwanted contact and hide each party's content from the other. When you submit a content report, we store the content type, the reason you selected, any optional details you provide, and the moderation status of the report. Report details are never shared with the person you reported.

Push notification tokens

To deliver push notifications, we store a device token issued by Expo's push notification service. This token identifies your device but cannot be used to personally identify you outside of our system.

Usage data

We do not use third-party analytics or advertising SDKs. Standard server logs (e.g. IP addresses, request timestamps) may be retained for up to 30 days for security and debugging purposes.

2. How We Use Your Information

3. How We Share Your Information

We do not sell your personal information. We share your data only with the following service providers, and only to the extent necessary to operate the App:

Supabase

Supabase provides our database, authentication, real-time communication, and file storage infrastructure. All data you submit to the App is stored on Supabase servers. See Supabase's Privacy Policy.

Mapbox

Mapbox renders the map tiles shown in the App. When you view the map, your device makes requests to Mapbox's servers (including your IP address) to download map imagery. Hangout does not send your name, email, or account details to Mapbox. See Mapbox's Privacy Policy.

Expo / EAS

Expo Application Services (EAS) is used to build and distribute the App and to deliver push notifications via the Expo Push Notification Service. See Expo's Privacy Policy.

4. Data Security

All data is transmitted over HTTPS. Our database enforces Row-Level Security (RLS) policies so that users can only access their own data and data that has been explicitly shared with them. Authentication tokens are stored in your device's secure storage (iOS Keychain / Android Keystore).

No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure. If you discover a security issue, please contact us immediately at joakim.evju@gmail.com.

5. Data Retention

Your data is retained for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we will delete your personal information and content within 30 days, except where we are required to retain it for legal purposes. Content report records may be retained after account deletion for moderation and legal compliance purposes, even if the reported content and associated accounts have been removed.

6. Your Rights

You can update your profile information at any time from within the App. You can block other users and manage your block list from Profile → ⋯ → Blocked Users. You can report any content or user directly within the App using the menu on any event, comment, message, or user profile.

To permanently delete your account and all associated data, go to the Profile tab, tap , and select Delete Account. Your data will be removed within 30 days. If you cannot access the App, or to request a copy of your data, email us at joakim.evju@gmail.com with the subject line "Data request" or "Delete my account".

7. Children's Privacy

The App is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the effective date at the top of this page. Continued use of the App after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
